Communicating with Disabled People

Working with Focus Employment Ltd, Tom Walker is now offering a new service providing specialist advice, help and support on how to communicate effectively with disabled people.

As a visually impaired person, Tom understands the challenges and difficulties disabled people can experience when a document is provided in an inaccessible format. Furthermore, having worked as a BBC reporter for the In Touch Programme on BBC Radio 4 and as a communications specialist for over twenty-five years with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, Tom is acutely aware of the sensitivities where language and terminology are concerned.

The service can include;

• Drafting press releases and other documents that cover disability issues
• Advising on language and terminology
• Advising on alternative formats
• Producing documents in audio, electronically and in large print
• Signposting to other specialist sources of information, support and advice

The costs are as follows;

• A half-day = £200.00
